Gone but Never Forgotten

I thought I could erase you

But it doesn’t work that way

The remnants of the pencil marks

Are always visible on the page,

At times I trace over them

My Fingertips grazing your memory,

The parts that are in ink

Can still be seen beneath

The white stripe I placed over them

As it chips away with time

And my nails pick at the rest,

I thought I could wash you away

Like words written in the sand

But your name is in the stars

Forever lighting up the darkness

Illuminating my sky,

Letting you go didn’t work

My soul has other plans,

I’ve decided to keep you here with me

In my heart is where you’ll stay

From now until forever

A piece of you will remain
